Roadside Mowing

Posted on 8/14/2012

Beginning the week of August 20, 2012 and continuing over the next several months, the Burleigh County Highway Department will be performing roadside mowing on county and township roadways throughout Burleigh County.
Operators will be initially focused upon cutting vegetation adjacent to the roadway surface that may restrict sight distances and that may compromise effective roadside drainage and snow removal operations. Operators will also work to reduce vegetation within the safety clear zone adjacent to the roadway. As time and weather allow, the entire easement on county roadways may be mowed. The removal of roadside trees will be performed later in the year.
Roadway users are encouraged to use great caution and always maintain safe distances when encountering the large, slow-moving tractor-mowers. Following too closely may result in damage to vehicles or personal injury from airborne debris that can be produced during the mowing process. Mowers will work from highway department facilities in Bismarck, Wilton, Wing and Sterling.
Owners of property adjacent to public roadway easements are reminded that all hay harvested within the easement must be removed prior to October 15th.
