River Road - Landslide

Posted on 12/23/2019

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019, a large portion of the existing roadway back slope on the east side of River Road (around the 3900 block) let loose and blocked River Road. The material ranges from 10 to 15 feet deep on the east side of the roadway to around 2 to 5 feet deep on the west side. It extends along 200 feet of River Road. As of Monday morning material was continuing to fall on the roadway and has not yet stabilized.

As always, my number one concern is the safety of the traveling public and our workers. We feel that if we try to remove the material from the roadway at this time it may bring down additional material from the hillside and endanger the safety of our work crews. Therefore we are planning on waiting until Thursday, December 26, 2019 before we will reevaluate the removal of material on the roadway.

The roadway will need to remain closed (while detouring traffic) until we are confident of ensuring the safety of the traveling public.
