The Burleigh County Detention Center is a 28,000 square foot tobacco free facility that was dedicated on September 2, 1992. The Detention Center is designed for a maximum capacity of 138 inmates with a current 2009 daily average of 128 inmates. The Detention Center is administered by Sheriff Pat Heinert and employs 32 full time officers.
Visitation - Visitation is held every Tuesday and Thursday (except holidays) starting at 1:00 pm for inmates who have served a minimum of four days in jail. Each eligible inmate is allowed one 20 minute visit per visitation day. All visitors must have photo identification, be on the inmate's visitation list, be dressed appropriately (to include a shirt with sleeves), and must sign in between the hours of 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm the day of visitation. If you wish to check if you are on an inmate's visitation list you must do so in person at the Sheriff's Department.

Phone Cards - Only Reliance phone cards can be used in the Detention Center. If you wish to purchase a phone card for an inmate you may do so by either calling Reliance Telephone at 1-800-896-3201, going to www.reliancetelephone.com, or by putting cash into an inmate account and the inmate can purchase a phone card. There is a kiosk by the Sheriff's Department in which to put money into an inmate's account. This kiosk takes cash and credit/debit card. Money can also be put into an inmate's account on-line by going to www.InmateCanteen.com.
** Clothing left for inmates must be approved by Detention Staff. **
** No items may be left for inmates who are transported in from DOCR for court or if they have been ordered to serve their sentence at DOCR. **
** US Marshall Inmates are not allowed to take any personal items with them when they are transported; therefore, only medically necessary items will be accepted. **
Razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products, paper, and stamps are provided to the inmate.
The following items can be dropped off at the Sheriff's Department counter Monday through Friday (excluding Holidays) between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. All other items must be purchased by the inmate through the Detention Center Canteen.
